Night After Night Watch: The Master List
Keeping tabs on upcoming live music events of interest, in and around New York.
Updated November 6, 2025.
Night After Night Watch rounds up details about upcoming performances of interest to the new-music community: contemporary classical music and jazz, electronic and electroacoustic music, and idioms for which no clever genre name has been coined.
This round-up used to be accessible only to paid subscribers, and maybe one day in the future that could be true again. But it’s not, now.
Events are culled from press releases, venue websites, social-media posts, and other online resources, and details are subject to change; follow links to the original sources before heading out to a show. All concerts are listed in Eastern Standard Time.
These listings are not comprehensive—nor could they be! To submit a forthcoming event for consideration, email information to nightafternight@icloud.com.

Tim Berne
Lowlands Bar
543 3rd Ave., Brooklyn
Thursday, Nov. 6 at 9pm; pass-the-hat
instagram.com/berneornot
Saxophonist and composer Tim Berne has been in residence at Lowlands on and off for many months now, a homespun residency he unpacked late last year in a New York Times feature (gift link) by Hank Shteamer. Tonight, he’s performing with his latest working band, Capotosta, with guitarist Gregg Belisle-Chi and drummer Tom Rainey—and they’re just off a European tour, so you can expect a hot homecoming.
Kelly Moran
Roulette
509 Atlantic Ave.; Brooklyn
Thursday, Nov. 6 at 8pm; $30, advance $25, seniors and students $20
roulette.org
Kelly Moran, an inventive pianist and composer whose career trajectory has taken her from indie-music venues and dance spaces to arena-size dates with Oneohtrix Point Never and a record deal with Warp, returns to Roulette to preview material from Don’t Trust Mirrors, a forthcoming album for prepared piano and electronics. If you can’t attend in person, the show will be streamed live and archived for on-demand viewing on the Roulette website and YouTube.

Roomful of Teeth + Coro Acardenchado
Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, Metropolitan Museum of Art
1000 Fifth Ave.; Upper East Side
Friday, Nov. 7 at 7pm; $35–$90
engage.metmuseum.org
The Met Museum presents Singing Stones, a program honoring the newly reimagined Ancient Americas galleries in its Michael C. Rockefeller Wing with two works by celebrated Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz: Canta la Piedra—Tetluikan, newly commissioned by MetLiveArts and Carnegie Hall for Roomful of Teeth, and Kauyumari, in a new arrangement for double choir. Mexican ensemble Coro Acardenchado participates in the latter work, and also shares rare examples of the canto cardenche tradition.
Sean Shibe
92nd Street Y
1395 Lexington Ave.; Upper East Side
Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30pm; $48.25–$70, livestream $25
92ny.org
Stellar Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe divides this program between acoustic and electric instruments, offering a program that includes the New York premiere of Tyshawn Sorey’s For Pat Metheny alongside further works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Frank Martin, Steve Reich, Thomas Adès, and Sasha Scott. If you’re unable to attend in person, livestream tickets are available.

Ivalas Quartet
High School of Fashion Industries
225 W. 24th St.; Chelsea
Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7:30pm; $20, students $10
pscny.org
Not exactly a new-music concert per se, but I’m psyched nonetheless for this opportunity to hear the Ivalas Quartet, a distinguished young ensemble that sets out to make a difference “by spotlighting past and present BIPOC composers alongside the standard repertory,” according to its bio. Performing for Peoples’ Symphony Concerts – for over a century one of this city’s most exceptional values – the group performs Deliverance, a gripping work by Derrick Skye, alongside canonical quartets by Claude Debussy and Alban Berg.

Rainforest +
Fridman Gallery
169 Bowery; Lower East Side
Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3pm; free admission
withfriends.events
Taking its title and inspiration from Rainforest, the still-astonishing sequence of pioneering live-electronics works by pianist and composer David Tudor, this generous free event features responses to the Tudor work by the artists of Ramapo College’s distinguished Creative Music Technology MFA program. Phil Edelstein – with Tudor a founding member of the collective Composers Inside Electronics – prefaces the concert with a workshop exploring Tudor’s ideas, techniques, and materials.

Brandon Lopez
Close Up
154 Orchard St.; Lower East Side
Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 & 9pm; $20
closeupnyc.com
Hardworking, resourceful bassist-composer Brandon Lopez recently signed up for Substack, which might be the best way to keep up with this protean player. That’s why I can tell you with confidence what the Close Up calendar doesn’t: that he’s playing tonight in a working trio with guitarist Chuck Roth and drummer Dennis Sullivan, whose work you can preview on YouTube.
11
Bergamot Quartet + Victoria Cheah
Fridman Gallery
169 Bowery; Lower East Side
Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7pm; $17.18
withfriends.events
The tireless explorers of Bergamot Quartet perform Brace Each Other Dive, an unconventional work by Baltimore composer Ian Power that began as a text score, subsequently rendered in graphic notation by the quartet members. (Hard to resist a final movement titled “mildly tonal, a bit out of nowhere.”) That piece and two more are featured on Power’s enthralling new album, Brace. Electronic composer and performance Victoria Cheah opens this New Ear Inc. presentation.
Tyshawn Sorey Trio
Village Vanguard
176 Seventh Ave. S.; Greenwich Village
Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 8 & 10pm, though Nov. 16; $40
villagevanguard.com
Hard on the heels of a sold-out week at the Village Vanguard with pianist Vijay Iyer’, drummer, composer, and bandleader Tyshawn Sorey sticks around for a week of his own. He’s playing in the distinguished company of pianist Aaron Diehl and bassist Harish Raghavan, most recently heard on Sorey’s sublime 2024 release, The Susceptible Now.

Suzanne Ciani + Clarice Jensen
St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church
161 Clinton St.; Brooklyn
Saturday, Dec. 6 at 8pm; $64.38
ageofreflections.com
Suzanne Ciani has enjoyed at least three professional lives to date: as a pioneering electronic composer, a groundbreaking commercial media artist, and an influential New Age forebear to latter-day post-minimalists like Ólafur Arnalds and Max Richter. She’s presented here by the Reflections concert series, which provides a rich visual counterpoint to Ciani’s Buchla synthesizer fantasies through a light show customized to the contours of St. Ann’s. The opener is industrious cellist (and My Chemical Romance tourmate) Clarice Jensen, who in recent years has staked her claim as a formidable, resourceful composer with projects like her recently released In holiday clothing out of the great darkness.
